Walls Ditch Digger Pants Review: A Brief History
The Walls Ditch Digger Pants are one of the most popular work wear items among men. They have been used for decades in various jobs such as construction, mining, farming, ranching and many other industries. These pants were designed by Carhartt Incorporated (CICH) and manufactured by the company since 1988. Carhartt was founded in 1892 and today it is the largest manufacturer of outdoor apparel in the world. Carhartt pants are made from a durable nylon fabric with a water repellent finish.
They feature two front pockets, two rear cargo pockets, and four interior waist pockets.
Carhartt Work Pants vs. Wall Ditch Digger Pants
Wall Ditch diggers are similar to Carhartt work pants but they are made from a different material called polyester. Polyester is not waterproof like nylon so you cannot use them for swimming or diving activities. There are some advantages though, they don’t wrinkle easily and they tend to dry faster than Carhartt’s work pants.
The most popular Carhartt pants are the ones that have been used by miners and railroad engineers for decades. These cotton duck work pants feature two front hand pockets and two rear hammer loop waist pockets. However if you are looking for a durable work pant that can take a beating then you should go for the new Carhartt FlexSecure WorkPants. They are made from double-knitted cotton with double front welted pockets and slash side cargo pockets. They also feature an extra layer of fabric reinforcement in the most strained areas for increased durability.
Walls Ditch Digger Work Trousers vs. Carhartt Work Trousers
Walls Ditch Diggers are just like Carhartt work trousers but they are cheaper and made from a different fabric. The material is called cotton duck and it is more affordable than the polyester fabric used in making Carhartt work trousers. The cotton duck fabric is stiffer and not as breathable as the polyester fabric but it can stand more wear and tear. This is why it is the preferred fabric for work trousers among professional miners, farmers, and other people that use their trousers a lot.
The fit of the two different types of pants is also different. Carhartt work trousers are looser and roomier while the Walls Ditch Diggers are slightly narrower and fitted to the body. If you are the type that uses your hands a lot when working then you might find Carhartt work trousers more comfortable since they allow more freedom of movement.
The popularity of the Walls Ditch digger trousers led several other manufacturers to introduce cheaper knock-offs in the market. However if you want the real thing then you should always go for the Walls brand.
Walls Ditch Work Trousers vs. Generic Work Trousers
There are many different types of work trousers available in the market today and below is a list of their major differences:
Walls Ditch Worktrousers – The Walls Ditch work trousers are made from cotton duck which is a cotton fabric with a treated finish. They are cheaper than the Carhartt Work trousers and have a more traditional design, featuring two front hand pockets and two rear hammer loop waist pockets.
Carhartt Work Trousers – The Carhartt work trousers are made from a polyester fabric with a water repellent finish. They feature two front hand pockets, two rear cargo pockets, and four interior waist pockets. They also have belt loops and heavy duty zippers.
Walls Ditch Worktrousers vs. Carhartt Work Trousers
If you are looking for cheaper work trousers then the Walls Ditch work trousers will be more affordable. The material is sturdier and it can last longer than Carhartt work trousers.
However professional miners and railroad engineers tend to favor Carhartt work trousers because of their better design. The reinforced stress points and double riveted pockets make them more durable than the Walls Ditch work trousers. They are also lighter and more comfortable to wear.
There are two types of Carhartt work trousers:
Cotton Duck Work Trousers – These are the traditional work trousers made from cotton duck fabric. They are cheaper than the Polyester Work Trousers.
Polyester Work Trousers – These are the more expensive work trousers made from a polyester fabric. They are lighter and more comfortable to wear.
Walls Ditch Worktrousers vs. Generic Work Trousers
If you want the real thing then you should go for the Walls Ditch or Carhartt work trousers since they are the most popular and widely used among professionals. However if you just want work trousers for occasional use then generic work trousers might do. They are cheaper and are available in most hardware stores.
Walls Ditch Work Trousers vs. Generic Work Trousers
Once again if you want the real thing then go for the Walls Ditch work trousers since they are more durable and longer lasting than generic work trousers. However generic work trousers will do if you just want something to wear around the house or when doing backyard chores.
Care and Maintenance
Cotton duck and cotton denim fabric will shrink when it is washed for the first time. It is best to wash your new work trousers inside out to prevent them from getting shrunken and torn. Washing by hand in warm water and drying outside in the sun is preferable since it reduces abrasion. However if you do not have the luxury of time then you can speed up the process by putting them in the washer and dryer.
