Stihl has made another great product with their FS 56 RC-E string trimmer that offers a lot to people looking for a trimmer without the hassle and complexity of a gas powered one.
There are many features this trimmer has over others in its class that make it a great choice. First and foremost is the power to weight ratio. It has a very powerful engine (2,200W) for its size but it doesn’t weigh nearly as much as you’d think for that kind of power. This obviously makes it very easy to maneuver around your yard without getting tired from holding it up for an extended period of time.
Another very handy feature is the size of this trimmer. It is very small and compact making it ideal for tight areas around flowerbeds, walkways, decks, and other hard to reach places where a big trimmer could never get to. It also has the ability to easily convert into a edger that can be wheeled along next to the sidewalk or driveway.
The string itself is easy to replace and changing out the head for other types of attachments is simple and easy as well.
What Other People Are Saying
As of right now this string trimmer has only been available for about half a year but it appears to have gotten off to a good start with people. It currently has a 4.4 out of 5 star rating on Amazon which is very impressive for a brand new product that nobody had heard of before. Most reviews praise it for its light weight, ease of use and maneuverability, and for the fact that it starts up every time without any complications.
There are a couple of complaints, however.
One of the biggest issues that people have with it is that it tends to eat through the line very quickly. This appears to be mainly a problem when the trimmer is used in edging mode because it runs so close to the ground. The other complaint people have is that it’s only two wheeled so it can be a little wobbly and harder to control at times.
As with any new product there are a few minor kinks that still need to be worked out but Stihl is a very reputable company and they tend to stand behind all of their products so you know you’ll get good customer service if you should experience any problems.

This is a great little string trimmer for anyone with a smaller yard or someone who doesn’t want to deal with the maintenance of a gas powered one. The light weight makes it easy to use for people of all ages and experience levels. It’s ideal for people who have a lot of trees or overgrowth that needs to be trimmed back regularly as well. The ability to convert it to an edger is a nice feature that not all string trimmers have and it’s very easy to switch back and forth between the two functions.
The biggest complaint that people have with it is the line feed. It can run through the line very quickly and it’s not always the easiest to reload. Other than that it appears to be a solidly built, reliable tool that will serve you well for many years.
