How To Use Skilsaw 8 1/4-Inch Worm Drive Table Saw?
Using this table saw is very easy. Just follow the instructions in the manual and you should be fine.
Do not plug your table saw in before setting it up. While using it for the first time, put on some safety equipment like non-slip gloves and safety glasses to protect yourself from harm.
When working with a new tool, you must always read the manual in order to understand its parts and how to use it effectively.
The parts of this table saw include a hand grip, a metal base, a worm drive lock, a switch handle, a blade guard, a miter gauge, and a rip fence. Before using the tool, you must first detach the parts from each other then put them together again in the appropriate order.
You must make sure that the hand grip is secured well on the metal base so you can maneuver it quickly. After that, you can place the blade guard on top of the metal base such that it covers the area where the blade is placed.
You must then lock the worm drive lock to prevent any accidents from happening.
You can now move forward with your tasks. First, you must connect the switch handle to the worm drive lock and start turning it counter clockwise while applying pressure on the switch handle with your foot.
This action will cause the blade to start whirring.
You can now move on to making your cuts by sliding the miter gauge and rip fence for straight cuts and tilting them in the desired angle for angled cuts.
After making an initial cut, you can now remove the material inside the cut using a chisel, hammer, handsaw or even a sanding block.
You can now remove the miter gauge and rip fence from the saw and use it as a hand saw to cut materials which are too long to fit inside the table saw. Make sure that you keep your hands away from the blade while doing so.
You can now turn off the table saw by pulling its switch handle towards you. Be careful not to touch any of its exposed parts as they are still very dangerous even if the tool is turned off.
What Others Are Saying
This worm drive table saw has received mixed reviews. While some people say that it is a brilliant tool which has the capacity to last for several years, other users say that it isn’t worth its hefty price tag.
While reading these reviews, I discovered that most of its favorable points have been mentioned above. This means that you can just read those and ignore the parts which you may find to be irrelevant or repetitive.
On the other hand, there are also many things which need to be addressed and these are some of the major issues which have been brought up by its users.
Some people say that this table saw is prone to ripping the skin off your fingers everytime you use it. One user even claimed that it ripped his ring finger off completely!
He said that he has had to take several medical exams in order to receive permanent disablity benefits from his employer.
Another user stated that the build quality of this table saw is lacking and that it keeps on falling apart when he uses it. He also said that his unit kept on jamming whenever he cuts tough materials with it.
These are just some of the negative things which have been pointed out by users. To be quite honest, there are a lot more negative reviews than positive ones at the time of this writing.
Why You Should Buy The SKIL 3320-01
While this table saw is far from being perfect, there are still some redeeming qualities which you should take into consideration before making a final decision.
The first reason is its power to weight ratio. This unit is quite easy to transport because of how light it is and its motor is also not too heavy either compared to other units in the market.
The second reason is because of how easy it is to assemble. Users have mentioned that the instruction manual is very clear and the parts are all labeled properly as well so that even a child can do the job.
The third reason is because of its built-in storage. This tool has a very safe way of storing the power cord, the wrench, and also all other accessory items which come with it.
The fourth reason is because of its price. Even if it does have some issues, it’s still able to deliver a powerful performance which is much better than what you would get from a lower end table saw model.
The fifth and last reason is because of how lightweight it is. While you may not think that this is a big deal, having to carry a bulky and heavy table saw up a flight of stairs will certainly be more painful than carrying an average sized lightweight one.
As you can see, the SKIL 3320-01 is not a perfect tool. However, it still has the ability to get the job done right.
While some of its parts may be lacking in quality compared to more expensive table saws, it’s certainly better than other cheap ones on the market.
If you don’t plan on using your table saw on a daily basis, then this unit will serve your needs quite well. Just don’t expect it to hold up if you’re going to put it to heavy use on a regular basis.
If you don’t mind paying a bit more money for a more powerful and durable table saw, then you might want to check out the DEWALT DW744XRS instead.
