Standard blades are designed for use on most new construction projects. Extra wide blades are suitable for older homes. And extra long blades are ideal for larger structures such as garages and sheds.

The bottom line is that if you want to save your hands, or if you have a lot of shingles to cut then this tool might be useful. It can also save you time if you are cutting more than a few hundred square feet of shingles. If you only need to cut a few batches of shingles for your home, then you are probably better off using a saw or getting someone else to do it for you.
