Ridgid Gen5X Brushless Belt Sander Review

RIDGID GEN5X BRUSHLESS BELT SANDER REVIEW

The Ridgid Gen5X brushless belt sanders are made from high quality materials such as aluminum alloy, steel and plastic. They have a compact design which makes them easy to carry around.

The belt sander comes with two different attachments: a small blade attachment (1/4″ diameter) and a large blade attachment (3/8″ diameter). Both attachments work well and they are convenient to use.

We tested the Ridgid Gen5X belt sander against other brands like Ryobi, Dremel, Makita and others. All these belts were equipped with various types of blades.

Some of the blades worked better than others while some did not work at all.

In general, the Ridgid belt sander performed very well. However, there was one major issue that we found with the Ridgid Gen5X belt sander.

There were no instructions included with the product or any information about how to properly care for it. We couldn’t figure out how to clean it either since we didn’t see any cleaning tools included in the box. This could potentially be a big issue in the future since dust and debris can cause problems after constant use.

RIDGID BELT SANDER REVIEWS

The main purpose of a belt sander is to quickly remove material without creating a lot of mess. It does this very well and it’s very easy to control.

It doesn’t vibrate too much or kick back when in use. The smaller blade attachment works better on smaller areas and the larger blade attachment is better for use on larger surfaces. We used the larger blade attachment to sand down a two by four and it worked very well.

On average, it takes around 30 minutes to charge the belt sander fully. This should be enough time to complete small DIY projects around the house.

The battery tends to lose power quickly after a few hours so it’s best to only use it for short periods of time. We would recommend allowing the belt sander to charge for a full 48 hours before using it the first time.

The sander has a convenient LED light that illuminates the work surface. This makes it easier to see what you’re doing so you can focus on the task at hand.

The belt sander is not too loud either and it’s about as loud as a lawnmower. However, prolonged use may cause hearing damage.

The belt tracking wheels are easy to access on the Ridgid belt sander. This makes it convenient for quick adjustments if necessary.

The belt tracking is important because it keeps the belt running smoothly and in line with the disc/sander. When these are aligned properly it ensures a clean finish on your work. The belt sander does come with a small tool for making minor adjustments to the belt tracking if needed.

The large rear handle on the tool is convenient and comfortable to use. It helps you keep a good grip on the tool while you’re working.

The front handle can be changed to the right or the left depending on personal preference. There’s also an integrated dust blower that helps keep your work area clean. This also comes in handy when working in a tight space since it can blow away any loose debris that may be in the way.

The belt sander comes with a three-year warranty which covers any manufacturer defects. It’s always wise to keep the original box or buy a tool chest so you have a safe place to store all your tools.

This will protect them from being damaged in the future.

The belt sander comes with a medium grit and a coarse grit sanding belt. These are installed very easily and they both seem to do a good job when sanding.
