Porter Cable Oscillating Multi-Tool Kit Review: Pros & Cons
1) The kit comes with everything you need to get started.
You don’t have to spend money on any additional tools or accessories.
2) It is easy to use and very convenient.
You just need to plug it into your computer and start using it right away!
3) The blade design is very ergonomic.
They are made from high quality materials and they feel good in your hands.
4) The multi-tool features a large cutting surface which makes it easier to cut things like wires, screws, etc.
It is also perfect for opening boxes and bags.
5) The multi-tool comes with a carrying case.
It will protect your valuable items inside the box.
6) The multi-tool is lightweight and compact.
It fits easily in your pocket and you won’t even notice it there.
1) There are no sharpening stones included in the package, so you’ll have to buy them separately if you want to sharpen the blades yourself.
(You may not have enough money for that though. In this case, you can always take the multi-tool to a professional and have them sharpen it for you.
It probably won’t be cheap, but it will sure save you a lot of time and effort!)
2) The blade guard can be a bit tricky to remove and (especially) put back on.
You’ll need to practice a bit and get the hang of it before using it on important jobs.
3) The blades are not very durable.
If you’re doing a lot of tough cutting jobs, like metal or stone, you’ll need to change the blades very often.
4) Even though it’s easy to use, some people may not like the fact that they can only cut in straight lines.
To make curved cuts, you have to rotate the material you’re cutting around the center point of the blade.
5) There are no accessories included in the package.
So, if you want to cut different materials you’ll have to buy the corresponding blades for them.
Porter-Cable PC250MTK Oscillating Multi-Tool Kit Review: Which Is Better?
So, is the PC250MTK better than the PC45K? Well, it really just depends on what you plan on using it for. Both products come with a blade guard, a carrying case, and two standard blades. Both also allow you to make straight cuts.
However, the PC250MTK also allows you to make curved cuts by allowing you to rotate the material around the center point of the blade. This is especially useful if you are using it for arts and crafts or other similar hobbies.
The blades on this particular model are also more durable than those included with the PC45K. While it does cost more, most people agree that it is well worth the extra money.
Having said that, if you don’t really need curved cuts and the extra durability of the blades isn’t important to you, then you might want to save yourself some money and go with the PC45K instead.
One other thing you might want to consider is that the PC250MTK comes with a 12 month warranty, whereas the PC45K only has a 90 day warranty.
My Final Opinion Of Each Model
Here is a quick recap of what I like and don’t like about each of the models.
Porter-Cable PC45K: (Dislike) Doesn’t have the ability to make curved cuts. (Like) Low price.
Porter-Cable PC250MTK: (Like) Ability to make curved cuts. (Dislike) More expensive than the PC45K model.
Now that you have read about and (hopefully) learned a thing or two about these products, you should have a good idea of which one you should buy. Just remember, whether you buy the Porter-Cable PC45K or the PC250MTK you’ll be getting a quality product from a well known company.
If you still need help deciding, try asking someone for their input. Check online for product reviews or ask a salesman at the store which one he would recommend.
As long as you don’t just rely on the opinions of your friends, you should be able to give yourself a fair chance at making a good buying decision.
Once you get your oscillating tool home and start using it, be sure to read the manual first to learn all about its various features. With a little practice, I’m sure that you’ll find dozens of uses for this handy dandy little device!
Good luck and happy tooling!
