Milwaukee Press Tool Has New Pex Crimp Jaws.
The Milwaukee Press has just released new pex crimping tools. They are called “PEX” which stands for “Polyethylene Extruded”. These new tools have a very strong grip and feel like they will last forever.
One of the most interesting features of these new pex crimpers is their ability to work with both flat and round tips.
A few years ago when I was working at a hardware store, one of my co-workers told me about how the Milwaukee Press had been making some changes to its pex crimping tools. He mentioned that they were going to start using a stronger material that would make them last longer than before. He didn’t say what it was exactly but he did mention that it would be better quality than the old plastic ones.
That made me wonder if there was something special about the material used in these new pex crimping tools. So I decided to do some research into it.
I found out that there are two types of polymers: polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE). PE is a much stronger plastic than PP so they use PE in their pex crimping tools instead of PP. As it turns out the new pex crimping tools that the Milwaukee Press was working on were going to be 100% made of this stronger material.
I had never heard of a tool being made completely out of this material before and I was really impressed by it. The new pex crimping tools were going to last longer than before and have more tensile strength than was possible with the old materials. The only thing is that they were going to be more expensive than the old ones.
The Milwaukee Press must have known that plumbers don’t like to spend money on new tools so they found a way to cut the cost in half. Instead of selling them individually, they sell them in a pair. This lowers the cost and plumbers are still able to get twice as much use out of them for half the price.
I figured that they must be pretty strong if they can be used twice.
The only thing is, there are two different types of pex crimping tools out there and not all of them are compatible with the new pex crimping tool. The new ones are designed to work with both flat and round pex so if you don’t have the correct type of crimper then it won’t work properly. If you are like me then you have both types of pex and it can be a pain to have to stop what you are doing and switch out the crimpers.
Just yesterday I was working on my pex system and I wanted to swap the crimpers out but I couldn’t remember if I had the type that worked with both or only one. I was in a rush so I ended up making a decision without thinking and grabbed the wrong ones. I had to completely stop what I was doing and take everything apart so I could switch them out.
I have heard that the Milwaukee Press is working on coming out with a new type of pex crimping tool that will work with both types but until then I am going to have to make sure I don’t grab the wrong ones by mistake.
Today I am going to talk to my boss about investing in some of these new pex crimping tools so we don’t have to worry about this anymore. I know he is always looking for ways to save money around the shop so I think he will be on board with this. It would be nice if we could get a good deal on them too.
I was also thinking about how I was telling my wife that I needed to pick up a new crimper so I could work on my pex piping at home. I think it is time to take my son fishing again. He has been asking me for a while now and I have been putting it off.
A father should spend time with his son so he knows that I will make plans to do this while he is home. I don’t know how to fish but I am sure I will be able to figure it out. My wife’s cousin is over at the coast so I can get him to take me out and teach me. He loves showing off his fishing skills so I am sure he won’t mind. Now I just have to pick a weekend when my wife has some time off so she can look after our boy while I am at the coast.
Maybe after I get some more experience I will take him fishing on my own. My father used to take me all the time when I was young and I loved it. I guess that is where my love of the outdoors comes from.
I think it would be a great father and son bonding experience. I can’t wait until I am ready to have kids one day. I hope my son loves the outdoors as much as I do.
Talking about fishing with my son makes me start thinking about work again. I am pretty excited to get these new crimpers because it will make life a lot easier for me at work and at home. My mind is made up.
I am going to talk to my boss about getting these new tools when I go into work tomorrow.
I can’t believe how much my life has changed in the past two days. I knew my life was heading in the right direction but I didn’t know it would happen this fast. I guess it just goes to show you that good things can happen to you if you just pay attention and work hard at it.
I can’t wait to go home tonight and tell my wife the news. I think she will be really happy for me and I’ll probably get a big kiss. Yes, life is good right now!
My boss said that as soon as the new crimpers come in he will show me how they work and have me try them out. If I pass the test then he will order me to buy a pair immediately. I know I didn’t fail the test so I should be getting a new pair soon after.
He also said that if I buy them then he will reimburse me because he doesn’t want to lose me as an employee. He said he can get any employee replaced pretty quickly but it would be hard to find someone as good as me.
I have to say that really made me feel good. It is always great to get a compliment but even better when you get one from someone in a position of power. It just makes you want to work harder for them.
My boss is a great guy and I am glad to be working for him.
The best part about all this is I don’t have wait long to buy the tools because the new crimpers come in pretty quickly. The day after I talked to my boss I was told the new tools were in so I went down to the supply room and picked them up. I can’t wait to try them out.
I got a bit of an earful from my wife about not telling her what happened yesterday because she found out on the internet before she got home yesterday. Oh well, at least she is happy for me also.
It’s funny how life works sometimes. Two days ago I had a really bad day and was worried about my job. Now I don’t have any of those worries anymore.
Just the worry of not getting the job done right.
I can do this. I am a lineman and the best one out there!
My boss didn’t mess around when he said he was going to test me with the new crimpers today. As soon as I got in the door he told me to go get in the truck and then quickly told me where we were going. It was one of those old job sites that we haven’t been too in a while.
I figured he was going to have me work on it, but I didn’t know it would be so soon.
On the way there he told me that this house had a few bad ones on it already, so I shouldn’t take them out right away. Just put them in so the others could be taken out later.
The site wasn’t quite as bad as I thought it would be. A few of the boards were soft and rotten but most were still in pretty good shape. I started taking them out as I went since they would need to be replaced anyway.
There was some minor damage to some of the framing but that was about all.
When I got to the spot where the bad ones were I took the first one out like normal. I had half a mind to just put in a crimper since my boss told me not to, but that wouldn’t be following orders and I worked too hard for my promotion to lose it because of some stubbornness.
It didn’t take long to get all the bad ones out and I had just finished nailing up new wood when my boss showed up.
“There you are, I figured you’d be done by now. That didn’t take long.”
I was a little confused since it seemed like it took longer than it should have but maybe he just meant for me.
“Well I took out the bad ones like you said. There weren’t too many so it went fast.
Have you been at the other sites?”
“Yeah I have been to all of them. We are going to have a lot of work here. I am glad you got this one out of the way since it is going to be one of the biggest ones.
It didn’t seem that big to me but I didn’t say anything.
“We also have ones going up in all the surrounding towns so we will be keeping quite a few guys busy. I am glad you are on the team now and I can trust you to get the job done right.”
I was feeling pretty good about all this until I realized what he just said. Now I was worried again.
What do you mean for now? Just because I have gotten this far doesn’t mean you will for get about me later?”
He gave me a little smile and then put his hand on my shoulder.
“Son, I was always planning on keeping you around. You just seemed so down about everything that I wanted to give you something to cheer you up. Just know that no matter what happens you will always be one of us now.”
He gave me a nod and started to head out to the truck. As he was leaving he turned around and said
“Oh, and don’t worry about the bill. Your first month’s pay will take care of that.”
Once he was gone I let out a big breath I didn’t even know I was holding in. I had a good feeling about this job and it looked like my worries were for not.
I went to the truck to see what else needed to be done.
The next few days went by pretty fast since I was kept pretty busy nailing and fixing things around the houses.
