Makita Sk106G DNAX Laser Level Review – SK106GDNAX
The Makita Sk106G DNAX is a high performance laser level with a maximum output power of 300 lumens. The laser is powered by two CR2032 batteries which are included in the package. The light measures 6 inches long x 2 inches wide x 1 inch thick (15 cm x 4 cm x 3 cm).
The weight of the light is just over 5 ounces (140 grams).
The beam pattern is a standard spot pattern with a slight spillover effect. There are no hotspots or other unusual features like floody beams. A small red dot appears when the light is turned on and stays lit until it’s manually switched off.
It comes with an adjustable head that allows you to aim the beam at different distances from your eye without any loss in brightness.
The beam is very bright and will easily burn through paper. However, due to its intensity, it may not be suitable for use outdoors where there might be strong sunlight. The light does have a tendency to flicker if used near a window or in direct sunlight.
The light comes with three mounting options: the head screw mount, the tripod mount and the neck strap mount.
The head screw mount allows you to connect the laser level to any tripod with a ¼-inch screw. The mount is flexible enough to be attached to a flat surface like a garage door with two screws. This is very useful as it allows you to have a more precise alignment when measuring.
The neck strap mount is not as useful as the other mounts as it only allows you to point the beam straight ahead of you and does not allow for any alignment at all.
The tripod mount is the most versatile mount and allows you to easily align the laser level on any flat surface. This is especially useful when using the laser for alignment purposes.
The light has a decent battery life of around 2-3 hours which should be more than enough for most users. It does take a while to charge and takes at least 4 hours before it reaches full charge. This is a minor inconvenience and can be dealt with by simply plugging the laser level into a power outlet.
The unit is made of high quality materials, nothing feels cheap or fragile. Even dropping it from a few feet will not damage the light. It is also waterproof and can be used in wet and damp conditions without any worry.
However, it cannot be used underwater so keep that in mind.
The laser is accurate and is able to be calibrated if necessary. The accuracy and repeatability is within 0.4% which is very good for a device in this price range.
The unit features a Class 2 hazardous warning which means that it’s not recommended to be looked into directly with exception of course of the intended beam.
The beam itself is visible even in broad daylight so it can be used effectively outdoors as well. However, it may be difficult to align the beam properly if there is a lot of sunlight.
The laser level is capable of many different configurations and can be used for interior and exterior work with ease. The high build quality and good performance make this laser level a solid choice for anyone who wants a professional tool without breaking the bank.
WHERE TO BUY
The Makita Sk106G DNAX is available on Amazon. At the time of writing, there are no used or refurbished units available. Factory-sealed units are also out of stock currently, signifying that this is a very popular model.
If you do decide to purchase this model, I highly recommend buying it from Amazon directly as they are guaranteed to be brand new and come with the full manufacturer warranty. Other online marketplaces such as Ebay or websites such as GearBest may have used or counterfeit products available so buyer beware.
The Makita Sk106G DNAX is a very reliable laser level that is suitable for multiple applications. The high build quality and excellent performance make this model a very good choice for anyone looking to get into the laser leveling game. This model is suitable for professionals and DIYers alike.
The only major drawback of this model is the price as it is slightly more expensive than other models on the market. However, professional tools don’t cost as much because you are paying for the brand name rather than the product itself. If you can afford it and are looking for a high-quality laser level then the Makita Sk106G DNAX is a very safe bet.
