The Makita brand name was founded in 1949 by John H. and Richard J. Makita, both of whom were engineers from the United States Steel Corporation (USSC). They wanted to create a better way of making tools than those made by their competitors. With this goal they created a new type of tool called a “Tool Box”.

A Tool Box is a box where tools are stored so that they can be used when needed. These boxes have handles and latches that allow them to open and close, but not fall over or break. The Makita Tool Boxes were designed to hold all types of common hand tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, etc..

In 1962 the first Makita Tool Box was introduced. Later in 1964 the first Makita Variable Speed Grinder was released. In 1965, the first Makita 90Volt Heavy Duty Electric Drill/Driver was introduced. By 1968, Makita had become one of the most popular brands in the home improvement industry due to its quality products and excellent customer service. Today, Makita Tools is owned by Stanley Black & Decker Company which also owns other well known household names such as Craftsman and Ryobi.

They are currently headquartered in Bolingbrook, Illinois and employ over 15,000 people in 16 countries.

Makita produces a wide range of tools from portable drills to abrasive cut-off machines. They also produce specialty products such as non-sparking tools for use in explosive environments. These tools make jobs such as welding, sawing, and grinding easier and faster. One of the most popular models is the Makita Angle Grinder. There are several types of angle grinders from small 4-1/2″ small angle grinders to large 13″ extra heavy-duty grinders.

All of Makita’s angle grinders feature an adjustable guard that can be turned to prevent material from hitting the user if it is accidentally cut off in the wrong direction. Other safety features include an automatic speed reduction system that reduces the grinding disc’s speed if the user applies too much pressure.

Makita Grinders are also available in both corded and cordless models. ALL Makita grinders use a “star” wiring configuration, which means the power cord has a “triangular” shape and one of the points is grounded. This prevents you from getting an electric shock if you touch your tool while it is plugged in.

Makita produces a wide range of products for the professional and the weekend warrior. I highly recommend them. They have earned the reputation of producing durable and reliable products that will last a lifetime. All of the products that they manufacture are durable, but the real key is that if something breaks they have a large parts inventory (or can get it for you quickly) and their technicians are well trained to easily fix the problem. That alone makes this brand highly desirable.

Cordless or Corded – Which is Better?

Makita has both cordless and corded models. Depending on your job at hand you may prefer one over the other.

For professional contractors, the corded models are usually the best choice. The cord eliminates the need to remember to charge up the battery. You also don’t have to worry about a dead battery in the middle of your job and being without power until you can get to a charger. For pros, time is money and any advantage you have that allows you to work more quickly and effectively means saving you time and money.

For the DIYer who doesn’t want to spend a lot of time keeping up with cords and extension cords, the cordless models are the way to go. They are easy to use and don’t get tripped over thanks to the lack of a cord.

No matter which you choose, Makita has excellent warranty coverage so if something should break, you can rest assured that it will be fixed (or replaced if needed) quickly and easily.
