A wire stripper crimp tool is used to strip wires, which are then soldered or braided together. These tools have been around since the early 20th century. When you screw these two pieces together, it grips the wire and applies pressure to the blade as well as holding the wire in place. The advantage of this type of stripper is that it can grip a wide range of wire sizes and it also tends to leave a cleaner cut. You can get both a right angle and an inline style.
The inline style is easier to grip because the slanted design puts more pressure on the blade.
Plier Type Wire Strippers: This type of wire stripper consists of two metal strips that are hinged on one side. They are typically about half the width of a standard pair of needle nose pliers. When these pliers are closed, they grip the insulation and then cut through it when the handles are squeezed together.
