DIY Fishing Rod Holder with Storage: A Simple Idea That Works!

There are many ways to store your fishing rods. You could use a bucket or even a large bag. But there’s no need to waste time and money on those solutions because they’re not going to work for you. There are better options than those methods, so let me show you how easy it is to make one yourself using common household items.

The first step is to buy some PVC pipe. I used 1/2″ diameter. You’ll need at least 4′ long, but you can go up to 8′ if you want more space. If you don’t have any PVC pipe lying around, then just get some wood and cut it into lengths of 6′ or longer (depending on what kind of rod holder you’re making).

Next, you’ll need to drill holes in the pipes. I found that a small hand drill works best for this task. Just make sure to keep all the pieces as straight as possible when drilling them. Drill out each hole until you reach the other side of the pipe.

Make sure that both ends of each piece are completely clean before attaching it together.

Now it’s time to assemble your piece. If you’re making the walls, then just slide them together and glue them at both ends. Let them dry for a few hours before you add any more pieces.

After everything is completely dry, you can start adding your hooks and other holders. I made my rod holder with 8 walls each measuring 4′ long and 18″ tall. I also made a base for it using 2 walls at 5′ long and 18″ tall.

For the top “shelf”, I drilled holes in the pipe every 3 inches and then used thick wire to hang fishin greels. Then, I just filled the shelf up with tackle boxes . For the bottom shelf, I just drilled holes in the pipe every couple of inches and then hung small plastic baskets from them. These are perfect for storing lures .
