Who are Gru’s Minions? What are Gru’s Minions?
There are as many theories about Gru’s Minions as there are stars in the sky. Everyone has their own ideas concerning the matter. Here you will find a few of those theories and viewpoints.
Minions are willing participants in Gru’s crimes. They enjoy their work and are well-paid for their efforts.
Minions are enslaved by Gru. They are forced to do his bidding or face the wrath of their master.
Gru keeps them drugged to ensure their compliance.
Minions are created by mad science experiments. They have no free will and desire nothing but to carry out tasks given to them by Gru.
Gru feels no loyalty to his creations and will dispose of them when they are no longer useful.
Minions are enslaved by the Evil Minions who are working for a yet bigger master; an organisation with an agenda beyond most people’s imagination.
Minions are simply soulless automatons that follow the laws of physics. They act on instinct and do not have a purpose in life.
Lately, Gru has been training a new line of elite shock troops to replace the Minions for his most important operations. So far they have been successful in their endeavors but time will tell if they are worth the extra expense.
Are you ready for the next generation of Gru’s Minions?
All of these theories are wrong.
Gru has a secret that he keeps even from the likes of Felonius Gru, his closest (human) advisor.
He is not entirely sure how it happened, but somewhere along the line, he ended up with a child. At first, it was just an idea, something to make his life a little more interesting.
Gru’s single-minded pursuit of mad science and the chaos that followed in its wake attracted a lot of couples into his fortress.
He had to have a hobby and what could be a better hobby than unleashing havoc on the world?
Gru decided to keep the matter secret, only telling Fanny. Felonius Gru was not a man to settle down and have a family with. He was too focused on his goal of taking over the world.
Still, sometimes Gru found a woman so fascinating that he had to have her. After an intense night of passion, Gru would drug the woman and send her back home with a story that would ensure her silence.
When the time was right, she would mysteriously disappear. Sometimes his efforts were wasted as some women found Gru repulsive and refused his advances. Those women soon disappeared in a similar fashion.
After some years, Gru realized that he was not aging. It seemed that mastering the secrets of time and space had its benefits.
Soon after, he achieved his goal of taking over the world. With little else to do, Gru kept up his advances on women but was more selective in his choices. He found that some women did things for him that no amount of money could buy. After all, not everything is about money.
One night, Gru found a woman with a striking resemblance to Edith. They talked for hours and Gru found himself feeling things that he had not felt in centuries.
As the pair got closer, Gru was ecstatic to learn that she too was not aging.
It seemed liked his luck had finally turned around. Here was a woman he could spend the rest of his life with and perhaps even have children with.
He had all but forgotten about the incident with a certain tailor’s daughter and her hideous children many years ago.
At first, Gru was happy. Then he was bored.
Then he was mad.
The woman, who identified herself as Lucy, was a strange one even by Gru’s eccentric standards. She claimed to be a witch and could perform feats of magic that even Gru had trouble understanding.
The pair journeyed the countryside in search of ingredients for her spells and potions. When they settled down for the night, they tried to conceive a child but nothing seemed to work.
Gru’s anatomy was simply too odd for Lucy.
It didn’t help that Gru spent most of his time reading up on the latest scientific advances while Lucy read ancient spell books. They simply had little in common.
When Gru finally tired of Lucy, he figured out a way to make her disappear. He wasn’t sure how she did it, but somehow she escaped from his fortress and fled back to where they found her years before.
The deserted village that Gru was once going to turn into a tourist trap.
Gru put the matter out of his mind. Nowadays, he kept Felonius Gru International Holdings running with little effort.
He didn’t feel much like conquering anymore. His days were filled with boring meetings and paperwork. The only excitement he got nowadays was watching the latest monster truck rallies on TV.
A year passed and Gru felt a great feeling of depression coming over him. He had tried to find a new assistant but it just wasn’t the same.
Even his robots couldn’t compare to the team of idiots he once had.
One day, an old friend came to visit. It was Turnbuckle the Bully.
He had gotten so large over the years that he literally broke the doors down when he came in. Gru tried to be happy to see him, but Turnbuckle seemed different. His attitude was less friendly than it used to be. Gru chalked it up to his years of fighting giant rats taking their toll on him.
Regardless, he stayed with Gru for a few days and the pair had a great time reliving old times. Turnbuckle even brought his wife with him, a rather large woman who was almost as friendly as Turnbuckle was.
They had a dozen children with them. Twins followed by triplets followed by quadruplets. The youngest, #12, was actually born during their visit!
However, this would be the last time Gru would see Turnbuckle. During his visit, he had made a new enemy in the form of an ogre.
Turnbuckle liked to think of himself as a gentle soul, but when an ogre called him a coward for not fighting enough he beat the ogre nearly to death.
The ogre’s friends were not happy about this. They raided Turnbuckle’s house that night and killed him, his wife, and their twelve children.
Gru was horrified when he heard the news. He went to the funeral which was attended by hundreds of people who all wanted to kill the ogres, not just for killing Turnbuckle but because ogres in general had been getting out of control lately.
Gru gave a speech about the good things about Turnbuckle and how he would always be remembered.
When the funeral ended, Gru left with a strong desire for vengeance.
Gru gathered up all the people who wanted to join him in his quest for vengeance and took them to the fortress. There he showed them all the secrets of his trade, from how to build a cannon out of a tree stump to how to properly swing a sword so it removed heads from bodies.
He trained the group for months, Turnbuckle’s death galvanized him into action.
When he was finished, Gru had a well oiled army of barbarians that were ready to kill. He lead them over the mountain and into ogre territory.
It didn’t take long before word spread about who was killing ogres. The other races heard about his quest and even more people started to join up with him.
Halfings, Gnomes, Elves, and even a few Dwarves.
Gru’s army became known as “The Bloodhounds” for their relentless pursuit of their enemies.
I asked Gru how he managed to control such a large group of people. He said he didn’t really, they just wanted to kill ogres so they did their own thing most of the time.
As long as they attacked ogres and obeyed his orders in battle, he was fine with whatever they wanted to do the rest of the time.
Gru told me he fought continuously for years. He said it was rough going at first as he was used to fighting giant creatures and the ogres were much more intelligent.
He had to change his attack strategies constantly, but it became a lot easier once he recruited the wizards.
The wizards joined because Gru broke the rules of his own “no magic” policy to save a group of Halfling refugees from certain death. He saved them with a wall of fire.
The wizards saw him break the rules and assumed that meant he would accept them as well, so they joined. Gru hated using magic, but he made an exception for his most loyal soldiers.
He said the first time they unleashed their full powers upon the ogres together it was a truly glorious sight. The market square in whatever town they were fighting in was turned into a war zone.
Bodies burned and heads were splattered across walls.
