CRKT Homefront Review: What’s So Special About It?
The CRKT Homefront is a tactical knife designed by Cody Wilson and manufactured by CMC Industries. It was released in May 2017. The design team consists of Cody Wilson, Eric “Erik” Anderson, Chad Burleson, and Ryan Lackey. The company is based out of Austin, Texas.
The CRKT Homefront is made from high quality materials such as stainless steel, titanium, and aluminum. The handle features a drop point style with a black G10 backspacer. The blade features a flat ground edge and a satin finish. It comes equipped with two reversible thumb studs for one-handed opening and ambidextrous pocket clip.
Field Stripping: A New Way To Open Your Knife
When it comes to tactical knives, there are many ways to open them. Some of these methods include using your fingers or a screwdriver, but none of these methods are ideal for everyday carry. For example, if you need to cut something with your finger while wearing gloves, then you’re going to have trouble doing so without damaging the glove. A screwdriver is pretty bulky and inconvenient for EDC, and it isn’t exactly the safest thing to have when you’re dealing with a blade.
The Homefront features a new innovative way to open your knife called field stripping. To do this, simply grip the back end of the handle and pull up. This will detach the front scale from the rest of the knife, effectively creating a brand new tool for your disposal. You can use it as a small choil knife for intricate work, or you can snap the blade back into place and continue using it as an EDC blade.
Besides just looking cool, this method is extremely practical. First of all, it’s very safe. You never have to touch the blade with your fingers, so you never have to worry about cutting yourself. If you were wearing gloves, the chances of cutting yourself are negligible.
Second of all, it’s very convenient. Not only can you open your knife with one hand, but you can also do it very quickly with ease. It’s a great option to have if you need to respond to an emergency situation.
CRKT Homefront With Field Strip Technology
The CRKT Homefront includes a black G10 front handle, which offers a secure grip and a durable build. It comes equipped with a drop point blade with a flat grind and a satin finish. It also comes with two options for opening the blade: you can use the thumb studs or the tang button.
The Homefront’s blade is made with 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, which is easy to resharpen and offers good corrosion resistance. It comes in at a length of 3.5 inches with a cutting edge of 2.875 inches and features a thickness of 0.1 inches.
The knife weighs 2.5 ounces, which makes it light enough for everyday carry, but not too light that it feels flimsy or weak.
The Homefront also comes with a reversible pocket clip, so you can carry it in your pocket or on your belt. It’s very easy to clip onto your pocket and takes even less effort to remove when you’re ready to use it.
Many techs are required to carry a knife or multi-tool around for work. From cutting wires or cables to opening boxes and packages, a good knife can really come in handy. The CRKT Homefront offers both quick deployment and a wide range of functions with its innovative field stripping technology.
