Craftsman MiterMate 21226 Compound Miter Saw Preview
The craftsmanship of the mitermating machine is based on the design of the blade and its attachment system. The blades are made from high carbon steel and have a hardness between 58 HRC (hardness rating) and 60 HRC (honing point). They are not only sharpened but also ground to a fine edge. The blade is held in place on the cutting table by two screws.
These screws are located at the top of the table and secured with hex nuts.
The miter slot is cut into the front face of the blade. This allows for a small amount of material to pass through while still allowing enough room for other workpieces to slide through it without interfering with each other or blocking your view.
The miter slot is made so that the blade will sit flush against the cutting surface when it’s fully closed. This prevents slippage during operation. The miter slot is made so that the blade does not move around inside of itself when it’s closed. This helps prevent warping and distortion in the blade.
The Craftsman MiterMate 21226 Compound Miter Saw comes with a laser guide that easily attaches to the front of the saw. The laser attachment has three mounting holes on the bottom for easy mounting. It also comes with a hex wrench, so it’s easy to mount in any of three different locations on the front of the saw. Once mounted, you can easily adjust its position by loosening two screws on the top and sliding it into place.
Once you’ve got the laser where you want it, you can tighten down the two screws for a secure fit.
The laser guide on this saw has three different components that can be adjusted separately from one another. First of all, there’s the laser itself. It can be adjusted up and down (vertically) along a 25-inch line. When set to its farthest distance, it will sit 2¾ inch off of the face of the saw’s table.
There is a hex wrench that comes with the laser, and it’s stored on top of the laser for easy access.
The second adjustable part of the laser is the small metal arm that attaches the laser to the base. It can be adjusted both horizontally and vertically (side to side and up and down). It can be moved to anywhere within a 1-inch by 10-inch area on the bottom of the laser.
The third adjustable part of the laser is the mounting clamp. This is used to attach the laser to the front of the saw. It can be slid back and forth on the rail that it runs on and can also be positioned up and down on the clamp. This allows you to move it forward and backward as well as higher and lower.
The laser guide itself is powered by a single 1.5-volt AA battery. This battery is not included with the saw. The laser is turned on and off by a small switch on the back of the guide.
It’s important to remember that this switch must be in the “on” position in order for the laser to work properly.
The scales on the MiterMate have etched markings that are easy to read and line up with the blade. There are three scales on the guide: one for the miter and the two for the bevel. The scale for the miter is located on the front of the saw, on the right side. There is also a bevel scale on each side of the saw.
Each scale is positioned so that you can easily line it up with the blade to make your desired cuts.
The scales are clearly marked in both metric and standard measurement. The miter scale goes from 0 to 50, with each number representing a single degree of angle adjustment. This allows for very fine tuning when making miter cuts. The bevel scale goes from 0 to 50 as well, but in this case each number represents a single degree of tilt to the right (when looking at the blade from the front of the saw).
The farther to the right you move the scale, the more extreme the angle.
Another helpful feature of this saw is the miter detent plate. This plate is located on the left side of the saw’s table. It has a series of small triangular notches in it, and each notch has a number printed beside it. These numbers represent common angles for various miter cuts.
To adjust the saw’s angle to one of these preset notches, simply align the blade with the notch you want, then tighten the knob on the front right of the saw. This locks the plate into position and holds the blade at a fixed angle.
The miterMate includes a sliding fence to help you make crosscuts, as well as a dust bag for collecting the sawdust while you work. These two items are optional add-ons and are not included with the basic saw.

The MiterMate is a great saw for those who wish to own and use a table saw but don’t have the storage space or budget for a full-size model. It’s small enough that it doesn’t take up much room, yet it can cut straight and miter angles with precision and ease. The MiterMate is lightweight and easy to store, but it’s capable of cutting anything you’d cut on any other table saw. It’s a great all-around tool for the serious do-it-yourself’er.
