In order to keep things simple, you can ignore the cost of utilities and of general overhead. You will only be analyzing the cost of producing the plastic shell and the metal components for CHIP’s tools as well as the plastic shell, metal components, and pump for their sprayers.

For this project you may assume that there are no fixed costs involved in maintaining the company’s factory. Also, CHIP’s factory is running at full capacity for the entire year.

For this project you may also assume that time is linear. In other words, the time it takes to produce 100 sprayers is the same as the time it takes to produce 200, 300, or any other number of sprayers. Also, CHIP can produce any combination of sprayers and tools in a single month. For example, they could produce 100 sprayers one month and 30 sprayers another month, as long as the combined total for both products is 130.

Give the company advice on how to improve their cost-effectiveness. You may consider changing the number of products that they manufacture, changing the way products are manufactured, or something else. How you combine and manipulate the data in your spreadsheet is entirely up to you.

Your goal is to determine what changes in their manufacturing process would result in the lowest cost per product for each individual product line. This means that if you can come up with a solution that results in, for example, lower costs for both sprayers AND tools, then that is the best solution. However, your goal is to minimize (and not necessarily reduce) costs overall. This means that if you can eliminate a cost for one product without increasing costs elsewhere, then you should do so.

Your goal is to provide the lowest per unit cost for each product manufactured by CHIP.
