Buying Used Tools Online: What You Need To Know About Buying Reconditioned Tools And Saving Money
In this article, I will share with you some useful tips on buying used tools online. If you are looking for cheap tools, then here is what you need to know about buying used tools online. Let’s start!
1) Do not Buy Cheap Tools From China or India? No Way!
They Are Not Good Quality For Your Needs!
The first thing you have to understand is that there are two types of cheap tools available online – those made in China and those made in India. These cheap Chinese tools are usually inferior quality than their Indian counterparts. Here is why:
Chinese factories use low-quality materials such as plastic, stainless steel, etc., which makes them very expensive compared to high-grade tooling from Germany or Japan.
These cheap Chinese tools are often assembled using substandard workmanship techniques, resulting in poor quality and unreliable performance.
China has been known to produce inferior products at times, so it is best to avoid purchasing these cheap Chinese tools. There are other cheaper options available online if you want to purchase inexpensive tools. However, they may not meet your exact needs because they do not match up to the same level of quality as the above mentioned cheap Chinese alternatives.
2) Do Not Buy Used Power Tools From The Big Box Stores? They Are More Trouble Than They Are Worth!
If you are lucky enough to have a big box store in your town, then you know how big these superstores can be. Even if you are not a regular customer, you may still be familiar with these stores just by driving through the busy parking lots and seeing the massive buildings from the highway.
One of the things these superstores tend to sell is used power tools. These handy devices are used for a variety of jobs, and they can be found in many different settings. If you do not own any power tools yet, then you may want to buy one from one of these superstores, as they tend to be cheaper than buying them from regular hardware stores.
The problem with buying these used tools from the superstores is that they may or may not work. If they do work, then there is no guarantee how long they will last considering they have already been used before you bought them.
You also never know if you are getting a good value for your money since you have no way of knowing the original price of the used power tools you are looking to buy.
Do not waste your time with these big box stores?
Try these other options instead.
3) Do Not Buy Used Power Tools From The Local Hardware Store? Unless You Know They Are Reliable, Then Pass On Them!
If you do not have a big box store in your area, then you may have to settle with buying used power tools from your local hardware store. These shops tend to have a smaller selection of used power tools compared to big box stores.
However, they are usually more reliable and trustworthy than big box stores since they have been in business longer and have a better reputation. There is also a greater chance that you can inspect the used power tools before you buy them if you are purchasing from a local hardware store.
Just like with big box stores, it is always a risk to buy used power tools from local hardware stores because you never know if they are going to work and last as long as their brand new counterparts. It really just comes down to how much of a risk you are willing to take when it comes to potentially saving a few bucks.
4) Do Not Buy Power Tools From A Store That Is Going Out Of Business? Just Don’t Even Bother!
Just like big box stores, businesses sometimes go out of business without warning. In fact, this seems to happen more often with smaller businesses, although large corporations have also gone under in the past.
Regardless of the size of the business, it is always a good idea to scout out places that are going out of business before you buy anything. This is because going out of business sales tend to have really great deals on merchandise that are up for grabs.
Of course, the only problem with this sales tactic is you never know when a certain store is going to go out of business. They could have been planning on closing down soon anyway, so your potential savings could be minimal.
There is also the risk that the store goes out of business while you are making a large purchase. This would suck since you would not only lose your hard-earned money, but also the merchandise you were buying.
In some situations, you could even face an uphill battle trying to get your money back if the store has already closed down before you go to make your purchase.
5) Do Not Buy Power Tools From A Friend? Wait, You Do Not Have Any Friends, Do You? This may seem like an odd tip to give, but it is actually useful.
One of the worst things that can happen when buying used power tools is being ripped off. Of course, this could happen if you buy from a complete stranger as well, but there are less risks when dealing with people you know since you can hold them accountable in some way.
Think of it this way, if you buy used power tools from a friend and there is some sort of issue with them later on you are not only out the money that you paid, but also the money it is going to cost to repair or replace them. This could potentially leave you in a bad situation where you have lost more money than if you had just bought new power tools in the first place.
Of course, if your friend is giving you the tools for free then there is not that much risk on your part.
On the other hand, if you are buying the tools and your “friend” suddenly asks for more money than what they are worth once you take them home, you do not have much in the way of legal options.
In this situation, you could try to get your money back by filing a police report or trying to work it out with them outside of the legal system, but these situations are always risky especially if the person you are dealing with has a little more street smarts than you do.
Ebay is a great place to find used power tools, especially if you are looking for something specific. You can often times find exactly what you want without having to sort through a bunch of other items.
Of course, as with any online venue, you have to be careful when buying merchandise since you cannot physically see the item before you purchase it.
Make sure you read the description carefully and look at pictures of the item you are interested in to make sure that it is what you want. It is also a good idea to only buy from sellers with a lot of positive feedback since this decreases the chances of you getting ripped off.
Another thing to keep in mind when shopping on Ebay is that the shipping can sometimes be more than the cost of the item itself. For this reason, it is often a good idea to consider the cost of shipping when deciding how much you are going to bid.
I have also had a few bad experiences on Ebay where the item that I won was not quite what was described in the listing.
