Bosch HDC250 Core Bit Dust Collector
The Bosch HDC250 is a compact bit dust collection system which allows users to collect bits from various drills and other tools. It’s designed for use with the Bosch Drill & Tool line of products, but it works well with any hand held drill or power tool. The HDC250 includes two attachments: a small plastic cup and a larger metal basket. The cup holds up to 5.5 ounces (140 grams) of bit material while the basket holds up to 2.3 ounces (70 grams).
Both attachments are removable so you can change out the components according to your needs.
There are three ways to attach the HDC250: using a standard screwdriver slot; using a hole in the side of the case; or attaching it directly onto an existing drill chuck.
The HDC250 is available in several colors including black, red, blue, green and yellow. You can choose between a 1/2″ or 3/4″ adapter for drilling holes into the bottom of the case. The 1/2″ version holds up to four 3/8″ bits while the 3/4″ version holds one 1/2″ bit.
Each package comes with a small bag of silica gel for drying out the basket after use. It’s important to follow the instructions for use, or the basket will not last very long.

Assembled in the USA
Very easy to use. Just remove the existing bit from your drill or power tool and snap on the dust collection attachment. You can also easily remove the attachment when you no longer need it.
The dust collection attachments can be used for multiple bits and other small parts, so you don’t have to empty them as often.
The attachments can be purchased separately so you don’t have to buy a whole new system when you need to replace components.
Works well with the Bosch 12V cordless drill or the 36V Brushless Impact Driver.
Does not work very well with larger diameter bits. The cup attachment can hold up to 1/2″ (12mm) drill bits while the basket will only hold 1/4″ (6mm) and smaller bits.
The larger basket attachment may not be able to hold 1/2″ and 5/8″ auger bits, even though it’s rated for 1/2″ (12mm). The metal wire at the bottom of the basket is slightly tapered so it will only fit 1/4″ and smaller bits.
The case that comes with the system will not fit into your tool belt and you’ll need to provide your own storage solution for the attachments.
The attachments can be bulky and may not fit into tight areas.
The dust collection system can’t collect very fine dust. If you’re drilling a lot of porous woods, it might not work very well. It’s meant for use with metal and plastics.
The attachments can come off if your impact or drill is working against resistance. The system works best when used with cordless drills and other power tools that have an optimal range of motion.
Tips & Techniques
Dry Out the Basket – When drilling into wood, it’s important to remove all the wood chips and dust from the basket after each use. This keeps the bit from getting clogged up with debris. You can leave the bottom open and use a small fan to blow out the dust, or place the entire basket in a bag of rice. The rice will suck up all the moisture from the wood chips and leave them dry.
Be sure to empty the bag of rice afterwards.
Use With a Random Orbit Sander – You can also attach the dust collection baskets to a random orbit sander. This lets you sand flat surfaces without leaving behind fuzzy bits of wood (known as “sawdust”). It’s a great way to smooth down surfaces before painting or staining.
Use to Collect Parts – The dust collection attachments can also be used to collect small parts. Attach one to your drill and the other to a 5-gallon bucket. Drill into wood or metal and the shavings will fall into the bucket instead of cluttering up your work space.
Don’t Over Tighten – You don’t need to over tighten the dust collection system. Doing so can cause the plastic to crack or break. If you notice that the bit moves when you turn it by hand, then it’s tight enough.
Replace the Filters – Like most vacuum attachments, the dust collection system will work best when the filters are replaced regularly. Dust and debris can quickly clog the filters, reducing suction and damaging the motor.
Don’t Use With Wet Bits – The dust collection attachments will only work when bits are dry. Using them with wet or oily drill bits can damage the plastic casing.
Don’t Get Discouraged – If you’ve never used a cordless drill, it may seem a bit overwhelming at first. It just takes some practice to get the hang of things. The same goes for this system. It can be a bit frustrating at first, but you’ll get the hang of it eventually.
Since you won’t need to buy abrasives and filters for your shop vac anymore, this kit will pay for itself many times over. Just make sure you keep all the attachments clean and dry after each use and they should last for years.
Try Before You Buy
Not sure if this system is right for you?
Most hardware stores will let you look at the attachments and hold them in your hand. Take advantage of this before buying to see if they’re a good fit for you.
Is It Right For You?
This system may not be right for everyone. Here are some factors to consider before making your decision:
Do You Own a Cordless Drill?
– The best way to take advantage of this system is to pair it with a cordless drill. This will give you the freedom to drill into any material without being chained to an outlet. If, however, you don’t own a cordless drill then there really isn’t much point in buying this attachment set.
How Much Money Are You Willing To Spend?
– As you’ve probably noticed, cordless tool accessories can be expensive. The good news is that this one isn’t too bad. It’s definitely more affordable than buying a shop vac and drilling bits separately. Whether or not it’s worth the money is entirely up to you.
How Much Space Do You Have?
– If you work in a small area, then this system may not be right for you. The vacuum hose and dust bag on the vacuum may get in the way or prove to be somewhat impractical. If, however, you have a large workbench or even a large toolbox, then this shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
Only Buy What You Need – The great thing about this kit is that all the attachments fit most major brand cordless drills. This means if you only have one drill, but want to use these attachments for another one of your drills, then you can. You don’t need to spend the money on this kit if you already have a compatible drill.
The Low Down
This system isn’t perfect by any means, but it’s definitely a great affordable option for hobbyists and beginners who don’t want to spend a small fortune on a dust collection system. It’s also great for those who already own cordless drills and just want to try out this type of system for themselves.
If you’re looking for a more permanent solution, then you may want to look into getting a real dust collection system. If you do decide to go that route, then you’ll need to make sure that your drill of choice is compatible with whatever system you end up buying.
